Dust and water meet

At the edge of thirst

And filthy soul

Search ending at the end of dusk

Begin again at dawn

Arrows stab at back

At every beat of hoof

The ride between the day

Between the night

Skin red of flamed sun

Tanned leather hide of a life

Tired swollen eyes

Elements unkind to the weary

Ever riding into the seeking

Parched pools cry for rain

Parched soul dries as skin

Focus so direct

Senses dulled to all else

In distance rises billowing fingers

Wave the seeking, on to find

Smile cracks dried lips

And untamed muscles upon the face

Spine twinges from the erect

From long the droop

Hoof beats pick up

Ever now the sought for moves towards

Rising fingers move with dance

Fragrance now of home

The eyes open to but another morn

Flesh is searing

Soul aflame

Heart blackened of the burning

Fingers rise and motion forward

The smoke of but another

Touchless dream

Clouds of dust from hoof beats rise

Rider towards the smoke still rides
