raven wave sound

by Dahni

In silent breathing between sleep and wake

Between night day dark light

Edge of other

Out of center

There appearing three ravens

Shaking in the knock of bone

As implanted words drawn from memory

come forward

Bearing images of death

With sleek black grace they swiftly move

Between the ordinary real and the under real

These children of the twilight

Why should I fear these corvids

Magpies or Crows

Except here in this mist between sleep and wake

Where images stored now stir while conscious sleeps

These are just birds

Words to images now winged with them

Do cross this speck

The line between world and other world

Heart freezes at thought of, they have brought me death

Mind curiously wonders at the three

Raven speaks upon the wind

I am voice of messenger

For we imitate sound and trick the ear

Or teach the ear to understand

Harsh cries echoes long in earth in air

Wings bear between the night and day

Darkness light land and sky garden dirth

The Norse call me Munin (memory)
