Tragedy
by Dahni
Once heard: In your life you have had perhaps, many disappointments, but no real tragedy! Is the word only defined by adjectives which describe: Missing limbs physical/mental abuse mutation hunger & poverty death of many loved ones by catastrophe lingering illness to self & others wrongful imprisonment mental impairment blackballed from family/friends/society being locked away & falsely thought insane - as if, these alone were correctly called - Tragic. What of unrequited love loneliness in a crowd giving without receiving broken dreams and promises without a mentor for life or chosen profession no endearing/enduring & faithful friend no soft shoulder to wet with tears of joy & sorrow no place to call home no reason to draw breath no one knows or cares if breath is drawn separation from loved ones while living confusion bitterness to live today as if tomorrow would change everything to move like the wind, not from seeking, but habit sleeplessness - to awake in the dark not knowing where you are, why or what you are; what of disappointing others, their hurt, is this not tragic? Words can be like endless to describe or justify what is tragic! Is this my purpose for writing - to justify myself or prove, that my life is truly tragic? If this were true, who then comes to my side to comfort, console or agree - Your life is truly tragic!, Who then? Not I! Not anyone! For we all seem to seek - not the loser, but the champion! A tragic life is more, much more than unfulfilled dreams, something missing or missed opportunity! A life is tragic which does not find and build a champion, a paladin within yourself - despite what has been - what is - what will be! Disappointments temporarily stops the breathing - the beating heart. Tragedy is no breath or pulse at all, ever or ever again though as if in coma we appear to be alive. Ive had disappointments - Ive had tragedy, but - the heart still beats - I am not breathless!
